Growth and change in nature and in human activities can be calculated and predicted using algebra. We will spend time describing speed, distance, and population growth, as well as recipes, saving money, shopping, and seating arrangements – all by using algebra. We will also think about circles, triangles, rectangles and cubes, because algebra naturally leads to geometry. Math history will not go unmentioned; you will know something about Pythagoras, Archimedes, Al-Khwarizmi, Newton, and Galileo by the time this class is done. This class will have an additional required 30-minute Zoom session each week.
